I realized how slow we, as adults, resist learning. I’ve often heard it said that as we get older, our thought processes slow down and it isn’t as easy for us to learn. Is this true? Or is it simply we don’t want to learn?
When my daughter Kelsey was four years old, I was watching her one day. I noted some differences between children and adults. The fact is, I was getting prepared to scold her when it occurred to me that I should be quiet and study the situation instead. I was observing how she was learning to work with what she has and the tools around her.

Kelsey had dumped a small bucket of mud and stones on the pad behind the house which is typically where we set up our outside table and umbrella. My wife, Crystal, often cleaned this area by spraying it with the water hose, which washes pebbles and dust from it.

Before I could scold her, she whipped out two brooms she had collected from where we keep our outside tools. Why two? Because there were only two! Likely she didn’t know which one would do the best job, so she brought them both. The first broom she dragged across the mud with the brushes pointing upwards. This did not produce the effect she was trying to achieve, so she discarded that broom in favor of the other one. The other broom she dragged across the mud with the brushes pointing toward the pad.

She studied the two brooms for only a glimmer of a second. She discarded the second broom and picked up the first one again, and this time she had the brushes pointed toward the mud.

Finding the right tool and learning how to use it is part of daily life for a four-year-old. Each day is filled with new challenges, and they greet it with such enthusiasm. Could our lives benefit by adopting such a strategy? Could our businesses benefit from us learning at least one new thing every day?

Develop Self Insight for Professional Growth https://instructyourself.com/2021/11/30/develop-self-insight-for-professional-growth/ https://instructyourself.com/2021/11/30/develop-self-insight-for-professional-growth/#respond Tue, 30 Nov 2021 13:56:17 +0000 https://instructyourself.com/?p=23 All of us have the power to make changes in the way we think, feel, or conduct ourselves. We can consider our level of development, knowledge, experiences, and the proceedings from the precedent years. We must practice natural techniques, which can help us to stay focused. Once preparation starts, we must weigh the difference between unconstructive and positive. Rumination is the process of thinking deeply about a subject. This course of action moves one through the process of discovery and developing original ideas.

Human expansion experts often have the same opinion that if one focuses on developing hale and hearty self-esteem and virtuous quantity of self-belief, that entity can prevail over the unhelpful acts, feelings, and behaviors. A measure of the solution involves the interaction with encouraging influences. These influences will help you find a way to perceive things differently and often activate your spirits with a few friendly words that come from well-rounded knowledge, contented moods, pleasant appearance, trustworthiness, and so forth.

How one contributes to information in some measure influence what mindset we develop. Being around negative people all the time will only hold you back from professional growth. When you step into this growth arena, you want to arm yourself with the best breastplate that life can provide. This will ensure that you meet the expectations through this growth phase. You must remove any negativity in your life to advance toward professional growth. Below is a list of negative that you can work on. Be sure to take action as soon as possible so that you become the pro that you long to be.

  • Racism – the variants of racism only lead you to intolerance and bigotry. Do not be listed in this category. Otherwise, you will not succeed in the business world.
  • Hate – if you are filled with hate, revulsions, you are someone disgusting to others. Abandon hate and people will like you.
  • Dishonest – if you are dishonest, people will not trust you. Mendacious people often commit fraud or other crimes, simply because they set themselves up for the fall.
  • Disloyal – disloyal people are unfaithful, false, or fake, treacherous, and untrustworthy. Do not be a fictional character in someone’s book, rather develop faithful traits.
  • Doubt – When you have doubts, you will often hesitate when it is your turn to make a decision. If you are indecisive, people will consider you mistrusting, will feel suspicious of you, skeptic to listen, reserved, and so on. Do not be a smidgen. Rather, become a lifelong learner, and adjust your way of thinking by finding the facts.

There are many other negative thinking habits you should consider. Notice your behaviors and habits as well. If you have unconstructive habits or behaviors, they often lead you straight down the road to damnation. You want to avoid hitting this road since no benefits are offered. The only true outcome is self-defeat, self-destruction, and self-annihilation. Understand that you can extract from negative to produce positive. By developing a winning sense of humor, you will start to see things in many ways, rather than in a negative way. Learn to laugh and be cheerful. Everyone enjoys a person full of life. Imagine yourself sitting in a big, overstuffed leather office chair with a big fat expensive cigar in your hand. Often the relaxed people make it to the higher office grounds. You can change in many ways, but try to keep it on a real note and a constructive level to improve your overall quality of life. Dismiss those negative thoughts.

Continuing Education https://instructyourself.com/2021/11/30/continuing-education/ https://instructyourself.com/2021/11/30/continuing-education/#respond Tue, 30 Nov 2021 13:55:21 +0000 https://instructyourself.com/?p=20 There are so many things to be learned about the world. Take a library, for example. Think about how many different subjects are to be studied and learned through the books on the library shelves. You could start reading a book today and still be reading months or years from now. Or consider how much you could learn about something as simple as your favorite flower. Many books have been written, and hundreds of websites have been created about that kind of flower alone. There is a complexity to your favorite flower that makes learning about it take longer than you’d first think. Whether you are eight or seventy-eight, continuing education is important for you.

Continuing education does not just mean that you move on to college after high school or that you pursue a graduate degree after completing college. Continuing education means continuous learning. Continuing education happens as we become curious people who care about ourselves, others, and the world. When we are curious about something, it will inspire us to learn about it. Continuing education is simply about becoming a lifelong learner. It is about never being satisfied with the amount of knowledge we have but always pursuing something new.
Think about ways to make continuing education a consistent part of your life. What things are you curious about? Are there things you have always wondered about? Perhaps you would like to know more about the history of the automobile or about the person who invented blue jeans. Allow yourself to wonder things like this, but do not let yourself stop by just wondering. Continuing education means taking the time to study and learn about these and other things.

Continuing education can be as simple as committing to reading one book per month for the rest of your life. Think about how much you could learn by reading books on different subjects for the rest of your life. Or, continuing education can be enrolling in a class at a local college just for fun. Have you always wanted to learn about European history? Enroll in a class about it just for your benefit.

Whatever continuing education means for your life, just do it. You will be glad that you made it a priority to keep learning, and you will be surprised about how little you already know. Once you begin continuing education, you will never be able to stop, and that is exactly the point.

Why Should You Become A Lifelong Learner? https://instructyourself.com/2021/11/30/why-should-you-become-a-lifelong-learner/ https://instructyourself.com/2021/11/30/why-should-you-become-a-lifelong-learner/#respond Tue, 30 Nov 2021 13:51:30 +0000 https://instructyourself.com/?p=17 I am a student, a teacher, and a mother (in order of the role’s appearance in my life). Being a teacher and a mother means I am continually learning something new. I learn so I can keep up with my students and son. I learn from my students and my son. And, I learn so I can do my best as a teacher and a mother.

However, even if the role of a student wasn’t forced on me in my life, I think I would be a lifelong learner. I love to learn. The universe is such a large and diverse place, and even our small corner of it is so complex and varied that you can find a new challenge in any direction you look. I love learning big things and small things, and even trivial things.

I love the investigation and the discovery involved in the process of learning. Sometimes only the process interests me, and I don’t worry about the result. I’ve always suspected that being a lifelong learner was a good thing, and I recently came up with three good reasons for embracing lifelong learning.

However, researchers at the University of Toronto have found learning can not only be good for your life but also your brain. Learning may protect the brain from the negative impacts of aging, such as memory loss, by building alternate neural networks absent in less-educated people. The more years you spend learning, the more prevention against memory loss you have.

Dr. Paul Nussbaum has also done extensive research in this area, and he reports that new and complex stimulation promotes a healthy brain. He says: “New learning translates to neurophysiological growth and mental stimulation in the same way that aerobics translates to cardiovascular health.” Nussbaum encourages people of all ages to continually promote their brain’s health by challenging their brain by learning new information and new skills as well as pursuing activities that may be challenging to master at first.

Lifelong learning also offers additional ways to keep your brain healthy. Studies show that it is important for human beings to have a role and a sense of purpose. Actively pursuing knowledge and skills can help you achieve both as well as the stimulation your brain needs to be healthy.

Finally, there is the financial incentive for learning. Studies show a strong correlation between health and finances. Other research shows that the more education and skills (learning) a person acquires, the higher their income. People who know more not only earn more money but know how to use it as a tool to further build their financial resources. No matter what your income or your age, it is never too late to begin learning how to manage your money better.

Three very good reasons for becoming a lifelong learner include promoting your brain’s health, giving your life a sense of purpose, and promoting your financial security. Any one of these reasons should be enough, but all three combine to a powerful motivation to learn.

Knowledge Learning: Why You Should Learn More? https://instructyourself.com/2021/11/30/knowledge-learning-why-you-should-learn-more/ https://instructyourself.com/2021/11/30/knowledge-learning-why-you-should-learn-more/#respond Tue, 30 Nov 2021 13:51:02 +0000 https://instructyourself.com/?p=15 I am a proud lifelong learner and am married to one. I am descended from a long line of lifelong learners and hope that I am raising another generation as well. As a lifelong learner, I am a bit confused by people who think learning is something you can finish off at the age of 18 or 22. Even though I am not currently pursuing a degree or continuing professional training, I still make learning an important part of my life.

Here are seven reasons why you should too:
One of the best reasons for learning more is that knowledge expands your horizons. By looking beyond your immediate concerns, you can truly appreciate all that is good about your own life and help you know what you can do to make the lives of others better. Although learning about the bigger problems of the world can be depressing at times, it can also put your problems and concerns into perspective.

The pursuit of learning also helps you challenge yourself to become a better and smarter person than you are today. Learning, helps you be more as well as learn more. Learning also helps keep your mind sharp. Even if you use your brain every day for complicated thoughts and decisions, it is the challenge of new material and tasks that keep your brain agile.

Learning, in and out of your professional arena, can also help you with your job and career. Learning new skills and ideas that you can apply directly to your job is always good, but sometimes the simple fact that you demonstrate your willingness and ability to learn will give an impression to your boss that you are on the fast track.

The pursuit of knowledge can also widen your social circle by introducing you to different groups of people than you would encounter in your daily life. Friendships that form over a common bond are often the most rewarding friendships you can create.

Learning new and different skills and knowledge can also make you a more interesting person, which will, in turn, help you form new relationships or just make you more interesting and attractive to the people you already know.

Finally, learning can help you improve yourself. Who does not want to be a better, smarter, and more knowledgeable person?

If you are not already a lifelong learner, then perhaps you should consider the benefits you can accrue from the pursuit of knowledge. Learning can expand your horizons, challenge you, improve your mental agility, improve your professional prospects, expand your social circle, make you a more interesting person, and help you improve yourself.
